Targeted for parents of teenagers, but with advice and techniques applicable to any age, Mr Tripp counters the culturally instilled belief that the teenage years are simply a time "to survive". Quite to the contrary, these are years to dig in and seize the opportunities to deepen communication, learn, and grow with our teens.
Mr. Tripp sets the stage by explaining the simple fact that "our communication problems with our teenagers exist not simply because or our child's character, but because of our idolatry" as parents...things like comfort, respect, control that prevent us from taking the time to deal with the heart issues. He then gives a high level view of what a Biblical family is and what the objectives are before launching into the meaty middle of the book.
He reveals five key goals for raising teenagers. These goals touch on all of the "typical" teen issues including the very real spiritual struggle going on, developing a personal relationship with God apart from their parents, dealing with the overwhelming influence of culture, and preparing them to leave home. He ends the book with practical tips and techniques to help apply the principles. Also included is a study guide for parents and/or groups to work through.
